frequently asked questions
Question: I'm curious if an artist entering this juried competition must have a physical disability or only a physical challenge. I am legally blind and am hearing impaired.
Answer: Most importantly - would you self-identify as having a disability? That's the bigger question. You should be comfortable disclosing your disability (in an appropriate way of course), and talking publicly about the rights and artistic contributions of people with disabilities.
Question: What if my artwork does not fit this particular call? How else could I get involved with VSA arts?
Answer: VSA arts maintains an Artists Registry, open to all artists with disabilities ages 18 and above. The Artists Registry is a directory of visual, performing, and literary artists that assists us in identifying artists with disabilities for opportunities that arise through our contacts. Membership in the Registry is free and as a member, you will receive our newsletters, calls for art, and regular postings through e-mail. In addition, we have initiated an online component so that our members may post an image or headshot, a brief bio, and contact information.
Question: Should the jpeg images be of completed works available for exhibition or be indicative of working style and methods?
Answer: The jpeg images, uploaded and submitted to the CaFE website, should be images of your artwork that is available for exhibition. The jury will be reviewing these images to select artwork for the exhibit. If you are submitting artwork that has a sound or video component, please upload four images (in JPEG format) of the artwork to the CaFE website and also send a supplemental CD or DVD of your project to our office address.
