© 2007 Elise Mravunac, You're Doing It Wrong, acrylic and oil on canvas (30 x 24”) Elise Mravunac made her first concentrated attempt at drawing when she was six, and she has not stopped drawing or painting since. Her main motivating factor is to excel at expressing all the parts of life that are beautiful, fleeting, silent, and easy to overlook. Mravunac's rich, densely layered compositions, such as You're Doing It Wrong, reflect her study of old master painters, a pursuit that has brought discipline and focus to her workflow. She begins by composing careful, detailed pen-and-ink drawings that allow her to focus on composition, conceptual themes, and the emotional impact of light and dark spaces. Mravunac then uses elements of the pen drawings as inspiration for a large drawing that she transfers to panel. She uses her own combination of mediums to avoid the harmful vapors of traditional media. For Mravunac, who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, her disability “is a great asset when it comes to holistic, nonlinear thinking…. Art has always been my way to communicate with others.” www.eam-international.com |
