Katrina Cathcart started creating art in her freshman year of high school, spurred on by several important life events, and now studies with Seamus Hanes at Top Drawer Art Center in East Providence, Rhode Island.

Her vivid compositions, inspired by an artistic exploration of color and shape, incorporate various ideas and storylines. With its rich tapestry of slogans, symbols, and pop culture references, Color My World is an intricate commentary prompted by repeated viewings of the History Channel on television.

For Cathcart, who has traumatic brain injury, originality in the creative process is paramount: “The lesson that I remember most from art class is to always use my own ideas.”

Additionally, the artist hopes to see the illuminating power of art shared by individuals and communities everywhere: “In the long run, I hope that people from all over the world will be able to share every wonderful thing about art with each other. Because it's going to help them smile every day.”
