"My eyes are my 'ears' and my hands are my 'communicator.' I paint from what I see." Nancy Rourke was born and raised in San Diego, California and was diagnosed wtih deafness at age six. At an early age she discovered her love of art and eventually received a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Her artwork is characterized by color value and form and is influenced by the work of the Fauvists and Post-Impressionists. Rourke has exhibited in deaf artist shows at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC and in Los Angeles, California.
