VSA arts believes that when it comes to creating art, all kids can, because all kids do. We encourages students to pursue the arts in the classroom and at home. The arts can take on many different roles in the lives of children. They can provide a vehicle for learning basic educational skills, identify abilities as well as enable children to learn in different ways. Students often remember their early paintings, music lessons, and poems—they provide a sense of accomplishment and trigger memories of success.
This year, VSA arts and CVS Caremark All Kids Can joined together in a comprehensive national campaign to expand arts-based programming for children with disabilities. All 6,300 CVS Caremark locations and all VSA arts affiliates across the country were part of the effort. Over the past year, young people created original artwork, artist-in-residence programs facilitated learning through the arts for students with disabilities, and CVS Caremark employees led volunteer activities that engaged their communities in building inclusive environments. These programs work towards our mutual goals of expanding inclusive arts education programs and improving the lives and learning of young people with disabilities.
This exhibition highlights examples of children’s artwork sent in response to a national call, “All Kids Can…CREATE!”. We encouraged children to explore new activities, rethink their perceptions, and discover themselves as artists. Through “All Kids Can…CREATE!” we are reminded of the many ways art can spark passion and enthusiasm in young minds.
