symbolic picture shows the murky present and future from which two hands are connected to an orb filled with clarity and beauty, symbolizing the beauty of the past past and the clear path to the future through art
artist: Timothy Batten
state: Shamong, NJ
title: "Only When I Look Inside
Do I See the Truth"
media and size: watercolor (18 x 24"), 2001
statement: "Art shapes my world by showing me what I can do with my life.
My painting shows this by being a visualization of how life can be.
The setting is dark and murky representing the confusion and uncertainty
that life can have sometimes. The orb is how art allows me to view my life,
in clarity and beauty. I chose the scene of my Grandfather and myself
when I was a child because it brought back memories for me.
My hands are connected to the orb because they are my link to the past,
present, future and beauty that I try to create. The two white openings
are exits from the uncertainties of life and are the path to my world
where art and I are one."
