The following comments have been received in response to the questions posted for the Disability Culture section of this exhibit.
Topics for comment were:
1.) What evidence exists for a 'disability culture' ?
2.) Do people with disabilities share a common history, collective identity or related experiences?
3.) Have you ever documented your personal experience of living with a disability?
I work with individuals with disabilities and their experiences are quite different than mine. Most have been institutionalized for a good portion of their lives, isolated, disempowered, and abused. Thank goodness time moves forward because I learn so much from the people I work with. I hold their expressions and impressions of life in such high esteem and look forward to sharing time with them daily. Exhibits like this are wonderful!
