Comments: History and Trends

The following comments have been received in response to the questions posted for the "History and Trends" section of this exhibit.

Topics for comment were:

1.) Describe an experience that gives insight into the reasons why the ADA was signed.
2.) How have things changed since the signing of the ADA in1990?


Comments

One specific memory before handicap parking, I struggled physically to carry a huge, heavy, awkward portfolio for blocks when attending ASU. I also remember feeling very much alone in my personal physical limitations. There has been such a stigma connected to being physically disabled that that has added to isolation and personal struggles with self-esteem and confidence.

I cannot enter most washrooms, go from one block to the next or fit through many public doorways.
