Melanie Walker received a B.A. from San Francisco State University and an M.F.A. from Florida State University. In her photos, Walker, who is blind in one eye, addresses the unique perspective that result from her double vision. The piece "Earliest Memory" reflects Walker's first memory connected to her eye surgery at age 3.

Walker is in several permanent collections including the Smithsonian Museum of American Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Her exhibition history spans 20 years and includes venues throughout the United States and abroad. She has conducted several lectures and workshops, with notable programs at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Atlanta College of Art.
