with the Mainstream

As we browse through the images featured in the Merge with the Mainstream exhibition, we are able to witness the energy that is captured by artists with disabilities. The true joy that is evoked in these paintings illustrates how critical it is for artists to have a place to share their visions and capture their ideas within a tangible medium.

It was with great pleasure thatVSA arts had an opportunity to work with Margaret Bodell, of the Bodell Gallery in New York City, who has devoted countless hours towards making her vision, and this collection of art, a reality. Margaret travels throughout New England to independent living centers and related organizations that work to make the arts accessible to people with disabilities. Through the promotion of such artists' work, Margaret communicates the value of these establishments as a means for artists with disabilities to gain access to the resources they need to continue their work. She serves as a personal bridge for emerging and established artists to the mainstream arts world and continues in her efforts to integrate the work of artists with disabilities into corporate, public, and private art collections.
