Brom Wikstrom,
Washington, United States,
Heart Flutters,
watercolor (11" x 11"), 1997Brom Wikstrom's earliest memories are of sketching trips with his father, who is a commercial artist and illustrator. He continued his artistic development and enrolled in art classes at Seattle Central Community College immediately upon graduation from high school. Two years after completing courses at this commercial art school, he miscalculated the depth of the Mississippi river and injured his spine. During his rehabilitation, he started to experiment with mouth painting holding a pen or pencil in his teeth. He never doubted that he would continue his career as an artist and persisted with the determination to create the art that for so long had been a part of his life. Wikstrom's father's influence is apparent in his sense of design and the flowing yet tight geometry of structure. Wikstrom is actively involved with the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists and the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters. He believes art may be used as a form of non-verbal therapy in reaching special populations and helping them think positively about themselves.
