watercolor (23" x 29"), 1993Dorothy Smith, an artist with a physical disability, works with oil and charcoal on canvas. Through her artwork she has come to appreciate and explore her surroundings, herself, and human experience in a way she feels would not have been possible without this means of artistic expression. She has been involved in VSA arts of Ireland's disability awareness workshops and is interested in augmenting programs by using arts as an educational tool. She seeks to break down the barriers and segregation which exist between young people with and without disabilities in her native Ireland.
