,
mixed media (34" x 26"), 1995

At the age of five,JavierLechuga was injured during an automobile accident. As a result, his childhood was shortened, spending a lot of time inside the walls of a hospital. His family eventually moved to Madrid from the town of San Sebastián to be near the best care. His interest in art began at this early age and has continued for the past fifteen years. Lechuga began his studies in architecture, but left prematurely to pursue fine art. He is presently finishing a MFA degree at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain. Lechuga experiments with a variety of media, including printmaking. Within his pieces, he searches for his own "calligraphic system of images." Geometric shapes and fluid colors reveal a playful dynamic between the control and spontaneity of lines. Lechuga's work may be found in private collections around the world.
