oil on wood (16" x 39"), 1996PainterJosé Angel Ramirez Cuenca lost his hearing at the age on one. It was during this time that he discovered drawing during his visits to his fathers paper store. Drawing became Ramirez Cuenca's way of expressing himself. He attended a boarding school for children with hearing disabilities in Valencia until he was nine and eventually returned to Albacete, his birthplace, to begin individual art courses. Ramirez Cuenca has had over 20 individual exhibitions and 25 combined exhibitions since 1978. He is the founder of the Visual Arts Workshop in Albaceta and has served as the president of the association for people with hearing impairments.
