Washington Mall,
acrylic on masonite
(24" x 30"), 1992

Born in Chickasha, Oklahoma,Randy Souders has lived in Fort Worth, Texas since he was a child. The summer before his senior year in high school he broke his neck in a diving accident, resulting in quadriplegia. After months of therapy and training, he re-learned to paint without the use of his hands. All of his paintings are created entirely with wrist and arm motion. Souders earned a BFA degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and has been a full-time artist since 1978. Working in acrylic and occasionally in oil, Souders has had as many as thirty-five exhibitions a year. His work is included in countless private and corporate collections, including Humana Inc., Texas Instruments, Coca-Cola, Texaco and AT&T. Souders' vision of American themes -- Victorian settings, schools and quiet streets -- brought him to the attention of the Walt Disney Company. He has also served as an artist-in-residence at Walt Disney World.
