"It is said that art reflects time. Objects are viewed from several sides at once; perspective changes within the image; the eye is led to perceive several and different realities simultaneously. All is motion; all is change; nothing is as it appears."Winston Sturgen was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and is of Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry. He pursued college studies at Penn State University, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Oregon which led to degrees in forest management and economics, with doctoral work in business administration. Sturgen experienced physical disabilities since infancy when polio left him partially paralized, an his disabilities were worsened as a result of a 1985 car accident. Since 1985, he devoted his full energies to exploring his personal vision through painting, printmaking, photography, and collage. Sturgen was designated a Certified Professional Photographer by the Professional Photographers Association of America( PPA). Sturgen's work has been exhibited in one-person and group shows and is in both private and public collections.
