Peter Hughes developed drawing abilities before he could use functional language. Art plays an integral part of his communication with others and a tool for him to understand the world around him. For Hughes, who is autistic, the picture plane is a conversation allowing a place to ponder events, people, and subjects. His work has progressed from pencil drawings to paintings, and his later work incorporates text in the form of short stories. "I like to do big paintings of planes and people I know." |
