Kathy Pieper's subject matter changed as a result of entering an art workshop in 2005. She immersed herself in this vibrant art community that provided her with the motivation to reach beyond limitations and pursue challenging subject matter. Pieper, who is a paranoid schizophrenic, began to concentrate on the body in real life circumstances and to approach the subject with an attentive perspective. "The transformation from painting cats from my imagination to painting other artists from life has opened up my eyes and emotions. I did not take myself seriously enough as an artist 5 years ago which I do now." "Art making is like a friend to me and has been the one constant. I changed jobs, friends, work, and relationships. Art was always there for me to return to." |
