Richard Tranter
is a secondary school art teacher in his hometown of San Francisco, California.
A participant of the VA/VSA arts Program at the San Francisco VA Medical
Center, he prefers to create in pen and ink because of their graphic quality.
Much of his inspiration comes from the peace and beauty of the Muir Woods
near his home. Tranter also incorporates an awareness of present day environmental concerns in his drawings. |

has participated in the VA/VSA arts Program at the Oklahoma City VA
Medical Center since its inception in 1996. Through the influence of the
instructors, he has experimented in creative writing, photography, and
painting. "Sharp thoughts," he writes, "are best blunted with creative
endeavors." |

Sylvester Williams,
a veteran outpatient at the Los Angeles VA Medical Center, credits painting
with giving him a sense of tranquillity and peace after fighting the hardships
of life. The spirit of God and the images of African women are among the
subjects of his work. |

interest in photography began at the age of ten when he was given his
