Dwayne Maxwell, "Edgewood E5" (16)
Dwayne Maxwell is a frequent teacher, panel member, and exhibitor with the VA/VSA arts Program in Albuquerque, NM. He holds a B.A. from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a M.F.A. from East Texas University. The bold colors, patterns, shapes, large dimensions, and unique textures of Maxwell's work have challenged the normal formats of typical canvas painting.

He credits the distinct characteristics of his work to the influence of years of flying, looking out of aircraft at different altitudes, and reading maps to locate aircraft in relation to the ground. He mixes his own paint and creates the textures of his work by an unusual layering technique. Maxwell's work may be found in collections throughout the United States including those of the Museum of New Mexico, Santa Fe; Albuquerque Museum, ABQ Bank and US West, Albuquerque; and the Corporate Printing Co., New York.

'Sunflowers,' oil painting

Lewis Lassiter, "Sunflowers" (19)

Dr. Lewis Lassiter is not only an active educator, Baptist minister, art therapist, and veteran of the U.S. Air Force, but he also teaches art to veterans at the Jackson VA Medical Center in Mississippi.

A widely exhibited artist throughout the southern United States, Lassiter's work has changed in the last ten years from purist Realism to what he calls "Lite Art" - Impressionistic or Cubistic painting. Lassiter works primarily in oils and derives most of his subject matter from charismatic visions, dreams, and his general sense of an ever-present "visual mysticism."
