“ Through my art I have found an organized way to express myself in an unorganized world.”
At the age of 15, Bryan Guglielmi began his pursuit of art under the instruction of Garin Baker, illustrator and painter. He conveys, "As an artist, finding potential student teacher relationships are as important as finding the right environment to work and learn." He credits Baker as being a teacher, mentor and friend who sees him "years ahead."
Bryan, who is a visual learner with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, has found the traditional academic world debilitating and frustrating. Through Baker, he witnessed the tremendous dedication and hours that allowed him to make a living from his work. "I have learned that the disorders associated with my disability such as graph motor disorder somehow benefit me when I am drawing or painting. With hard work maybe I can provide a valuable contribution within the art world and to others." Bryan is also encouraged by his family, who embrace the fine arts and architecture, and he credits art as a key ingredient for his graduation from high school and invitation to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. "The expectation that I will continue my education in painting has been influential in my life. This opportunity has given my life a purpose."
