Over 20,000 call-for-entries were sent to high schools and colleges around the country, inviting submissions by young artists, ages 16 -25 with disabilities, to illustrate the theme "Shifting Gears." Participants were asked to reflect on a pivotal time in their lives that led them to greater understanding of themselves in relation to art and/or their disability. Selected from 215 submissions, these 15 finalists were awarded a total of $60,000 generously provided by Volkswagen of America, Inc.

In honor of Volkswagen of America's 50th Anniversary, Volkswagen generously doubled the cash awards for the program from previous years. VSA arts and Volkswagen are proud to offer the largest awards for young artist with disabilities in the nation.
