The spiritual journeys we face do not traverse and distance; they make us realize we are all empowered. While we all search on this journey for answers, we are each our own destination.
Carrie Brummer
Carrie Brummer’s work reflects her journey for inner peace. She created this work in response to learning she needed brain surgery for a pituitary adenoma, completely unrelated to her diagnosis of ulcerative colitis. The self-study incorporates references to the anatomy of the brain, breaking up the portrait into sections of greater detail. “My drive to paint is informed by the constant reminder that life is a gift. My experience lives through my work.” Brummer enjoys portraiture and the ability to manipulate the subject matter by using paint. She also teaches art and encourages her students to consider the intellectual, experimental endeavor of creating in a supportive environment. “Art is just as much about intellect as it is about execution.” Brummer received a BA in art and art history in 2004 from Colgate University, New York.
