The destination depends on how far you can go, because home can be anywhere.
Emily Francisco
Emily Francisco, who has impaired mobility, is both a performer and a sculptor. When she was a child she painted landscapes with her grandfather; now she reconstructs objects and captures fragmented actions. “My appreciation for art is through experience.” Francisco recently created a series of stills that reflect a period of personalized environmental adaptation. “When I started having difficulty getting around, I lost the advantage of having a secure place to live. For a while, the sculpture studio was my only home; the place where I kept my things, stored my clothes, charged my phone.” The work is a combination of familiar objects outside of standard context. Francisco is currently attending Webster University working on a BFA in studio art with a focus on sculpture and alternative media.
