Through my discovery, I paint common images that are seen as specific or vague destinations. I use these destinations to get the viewer to ask why.

Jordan Rhoat became serious about his drawing skill during high school. His teacher told him he was a painter and encouraged him to ask questions. It was then that he began to explore a sense of discovery and take his work seriously. Rhoat primarily creates using either acrylic paint alone or mixes the acrylic with house paint using GAC gel mediums. The paint is executed on the canvas using a repetitive, methodical process of applying and drying. Rhoat has arthrogryposis multiplex cogenita, a musculoskeletal disorder. “Creating art is a way for me to feel less helpless. It allows me to gain equality with people without disabilities. Art became the most important part of my education. I stood out in art class in a positive way because of my talent rather than getting attention because of my limitations.” Rhoat is in his third year at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
