When I am creating each piece, I get lost in the world that I am creating never knowing where it is destined until I have completed it.

Stephanie Ward uses a variety of drawing supplies—paint markers, pencil, pastel, and watercolor—to create her works on paper. Her bold compositions approach the subject with a sense of fantasy and whimsy. She describes the idea behind the piece Geisha, “I envision myself as this Geisha, who has put on all her best makeup, and I am heading for my next destination to entertain my guests.” Ward, who has physical disabilities resulting in low muscle tone, severe dyslexia, and developmental delays, says, “My art gives me a lot of confidence and something that I can feel successful at. I like trying new things so I’m not afraid of starting anything different. I feel equal to others with my art.” Ward is presently taking private art lessons at Monart School of Art in Kansas.
