In Another World
By Sarah Peterson

I live in another world of signs
far beyond your world where you hear.
It is a world,
someplace where you will discover
I am hard of hearing,
and I am not afraid of it.
I know others may think we have a disability.
What they don't recognize is that we have the ability to try.
Each of us is different in numerous ways.
We face many challenges throughout our life.
We may fail at some along the way.
We know we make a difference in life as well.
You may see nothing wrong with me
just by looking at me.
You will be amazed by what I hide from you.
You may feel awkward or uncomfortable around me.
But don't.
You may think I am not normal;
I am normal in my world.
I have a language with which I communicate with others
who are like me.
I won't hide myself in your world.
I will be successful and live in my world
where people find me normal.
