About the 2007 Selected Works

The 2007 Call for Writing was an international call that asked students ages 11 to 18 with a connection to disability to submit creative writing pieces on the theme “A Moment in Time: Zooming In on My Life.” The theme challenged students to zoom in on a specific moment, ordinary or extraordinary, in their lives, as a photographer zooms in on a subject to capture intricate details. VSA arts invited students to submit works of flash fiction, poetry, and spoken word. The eight pieces chosen offer diverse interpretations on this theme and best exemplify the creative voices that emerge from experiences with disability.
