The VSA arts Institute is an intensive professional development opportunity for artists, educators, administrators, disability service providers, and nonprofit leaders of all levels to explore a variety of ideas about how to maximize student achievement.  Participants will learn to employ effective strategies for teaching students with and without disabilities in and through the arts.  Discover how to create engaging lessons and learning environments that meet the diverse learning needs of all students.

Over the course of the VSA arts Institute, participants will experience four types of activities: Core Sessions, hands-on workshops, reflective discussions, and networking with peers.

English/Arabic translation and interpretation will be provided.

معهد VSA arts هو فرصة للتنمية المهنية المكثفة أمام الفنانين والمدرسين والإداريين ومقدمي الخدمات للمعاقين والمؤسسات غير الربحية الرائدة في كافة المستويات للاستكشاف مختلف الأفكار حول كيفية تحقيق أقصى تحصيل للطلبة. وسيتعلم المشاركون كيفية إستخدام إستراتيجيات فعالة لتدريس الطلبة ذوي الإعاقات وبدونها في الفنون ومن خلالها. إكتشف كيفية إنشاء دروس جذّابة وبيئات تعلم تلبي مختلف إحتياجات تعلم جميع الطلبة.

وأثناء مسار معهد VSA arts ، سيختبر المشاركون أربعة أنواع من النشاطات: حلقات أساسية، وورشات عمل عملية، ومناقشات تأملية، وإقامة الشبكات مع النظراء.

سيتم توفير الترجمة الكتابية والشفهية الإنجليزية/العربية.

Core Sessions with Workshops

Core Sessions provide participants with ideas, theories, and concepts related to teaching in and through the arts and are fundamental to the Institute experience.  Core Sessions blend faculty-led instruction, group discussion, and hands-on art activities.
 
The Arts and Learning - This core session will examine the challenge of designing and delivering learning experiences that reach and are accessible to students of all abilities (students with and without disabilities).  Theories and methods to arts-based learning that ensure progress for all students will be discussed, as will practical approaches for creating inclusive learning environments in the community.

Successful Partnerships - This core session will examine the benefits and challenges inherent in creating partnerships between schools, educators, artists, and community organizations.  Participants will understand barriers and approaches to problem-solving in partnering situations and will explore the benefits of working with others to achieve common goals.

Keeping What Works and Learning from the Rest - This core session will examine the practice and benefits of documenting student learning and evaluating program success.  Participants will explore different methods of evaluation and will consider the use of evaluation data in planning for success.

الحلقات الأساسية مع ورشات العمل

تزود الحلقات الأساسية المشاركين بالأفكار والنظريات والمفاهيم المتعلقة بالتدريس في الفنون وعبرها، وهي أساسية لتجربة المعهد. وتجمع الحلقات الأساسية بين التدريس بقيادة هيئة مدرسين والمناقشة الجماعية ونشاطات عملية في الفنون.

الفنون والتعلم – ستبحث هذه الحلقة الأساسية في تحدي تصميم وتقديم تجارب التعلم التي تبلغ طلبة كافة القدرات (الطلبة ذوي الإعاقات وبدونها) وتكون متاحة لهم. وستتم مناقشة نظريات ووسائل التعلم القائم على الفنون التي تضمن التقدم لجميع الطلبة، وكذلك المناهج العملية لإنشاء بيئات تعلم دمجية في المجتمع المحلي.

الشراكات الناجحة – ستبحث هذه الحلقة الأساسية في الفوائد والتحديات المتأصلة في إقامة شراكات بين المدارس والمدرسين والفنانين والهيئات المحلية. وسيفهم المشاركون عوائق وأساليب حل المشاكل في مواقف الشراكات وسيستكشفون فوائد العمل مع الآخرين على تحقيق أغراض مشتركة.

VSA arts Affiliate Program Showcase

The showcase offers Institute attendees the opportunity to meet, learn about, and experience creative arts practices from VSA arts Middle Eastern affiliates.  Participants will be exposed to new ideas and practices, opportunities for artistic expression, and strategies that foster creativity, skill building, and inclusive community.

Study Groups

Study groups provide participants with a relaxed, open-forum setting to discuss, reflect upon, and directly relate with topics addressed throughout the day.  An excellent way for participants to devise strategies and action plans to bring VSA arts Institute goals and ideas into their workplaces and communities.

Attendees

The Institute is open to individuals and groups alike.  However, VSA arts encourages participants to attend the Institute in teams that will work together to provide peer-to-peer support and long-term sustainability to efforts after their Institute experience.  Both well established and newly formed teams are welcome. 

Potential members of a working team to consider:

• VSA arts affiliate organization staff responsible for education programs
• Teachers (classroom teachers, special educators, visual arts teachers, performing arts teachers)
• Visual, performing, and literary artists
• Government officials (working in arts, education, or disability related ministries)
• Education administrators (principals, local or regional education officials, program directors)
• Education department staff from museums and performing arts centers

VSA arts Institute is Free

There is no registration fee to attend the VSA arts Institute.  In addition to Institute materials, lunches and coffee breaks April 17-19 are provided.

Breakfasts and dinners are on your own.  The Marriot offers a special daily breakfast rate of $12 per person.  Please consult the hotel concierge for local dining options.

Location and Lodging

The Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino, located in the heart of Cairo, is an 19th century palace surrounded by an exotic garden and set on an island in the Nile River.  The hotel is fifteen minutes away from Giza pyramids and five minutes away from The Egyptian museum.

The room rate is US$140.00 + 25.44% service charge and sales tax for single or double occupancy.  VSA arts will make all room reservations for the Cairo Marriott.  Simply complete the registration form and include the credit card information necessary to guarantee your reservation.  The credit card will not be charged until you check out of the hotel.
