ArtLink Exhibitions

Through the ArtLink program, students ages 7–14 create art based on a theme and exchange their works with an international partner classroom.  ArtLink allows young artists to contemplate their own culture, and discover the culture of their international counterparts.   The program is designed to be carried out in learning environments that are inclusive of students of all abilities, and a primary objective of ArtLink is to promote respect for diversity.

Culture Scope: Focusing in on My Life
June 5–24 at Union Station, all day and every day  [directions]

The 2006 ArtLink theme is Culture Scope: Focusing in on My Life.  Students were asked to choose a meaningful scene from their daily lives, and then zoom in on the detail or aspect of the scene that is the most important to them, capturing it in their piece of art .

Thirteen students representing the exhibition are invited to a congressional reception on June 6, and on June 7 will have the opportunity to meet with their congressional members.

Capturing the Moment: Hour-by-Hour Scenes from Our Lives
June 1–30 at the U.S. Department of Education  [directions]
June 5:  A ribbon-cutting ceremony will celebrate the
exhibition’s opening at the U.S. Department of Education.

The 2005 ArtLink theme is Capturing the Moment: Hour-by-Hour Scenes from Our Lives.  Students were asked to take their international partner classrooms through a day in their culture, with each student creating artwork about a scene that could occur at a different hour of the day. Teachers encouraged their students to represent a variety of both everyday moments and special occasions that they consider culturally relevant. The images in this book are presented with an indication of the time of day that is represented in the artwork.

Twenty classrooms participated from Albania, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Panama, the Philippines, St. Lucia, and the U.S (Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Tennessee).
