About VSA arts Internships at the Home Office in Washington, D.C.

VSA arts is an organization where the arts, education, and disability join forces. An internship with VSA arts gives you an opportunity to experience first-hand the activities of one of Washington's leading nonprofit organizations headquartered a few blocks south of the dynamic Dupont Circle section of the city and just a block from the White House.

VSA arts considers interns an extension of its staff, assigning responsibilities that help them grow both professionally and personally. While our needs are always changing, former interns have worked in the following areas:

  • Arts administration
  • Communications
  • Educational research
  • Event planning
  • Exhibition design and fabrication
  • Information technology

Here's what former interns are saying about their experience with VSA arts:

"My internship was not at all what I expected. From day one I was handed a lot of responsibility and respected as an equal. My input was always asked for and I was treated like an employee."
- Jennifer Ashley, Undergraduate Student, Arts Management

"I had an extraordinary opportunity this summer to work with VSA arts ... oftentimes it is grassroots arts organizations that best allow a novice to dig in deep."
- Kelly Huschke, Graduate Student, Museum Exhibition Planning and Design

"What a synthesizing experience this internship was for me! It called forth everything I have ever thought or written about in terms of art education and disability, and it led me down new paths of thought that I might not have traveled otherwise."
- Mandy Yeager, Doctoral Student, Art Education

To be considered for a VSA arts internship, you must be an upper-class undergraduate or graduate student. VSA arts interns are provided with their own workspace and must be able to work a minimum of three full days per week, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Interns are responsible for their own housing. Some stipends may be available.
