Cadre of Artists

"VSA arts artists of the Heart" are a group of professional artists trained in the areas of disabilities and special needs, who do residencies and workshops in various organizations serving people with disabilities in schools, hospitals, youth centers, and senior centers across the city. Artists represent the areas of dance and movement, the visual arts, storytelling and theatre, and music. Workshops have been piloted with Quality Living, Inc., an organization that serves adults with brain injuries; Munroe-Myers Inc. which serves people of all ages with disabilities; Bethphage, a group that serves people with disabilities; Micah House, a family shelter; Jewish Family Services, whose reach includes youth with disabilities; Community Alliance, a group that serves the homeless population; and Catholic Charities, through the Latino Women’s Resource Center and Addiction Center; as well as many others.

Start with the Arts

VSA arts of Nebraska works with preschool and early childhood education centers to set up arts curricula utilizing VSA arts professional artists. VSA arts of Nebraska provides technical assistance in selection of artists, evaluation, and grant writing.

The Nebraska Medical Center and VSA arts of Nebraska

Working with the pediatric floor and the staff of Child Life, VSA arts of Nebraska will build comprehensive arts programming where no arts are being utilized. VSA arts of Nebraska will be doing "artist visits" to patients, as well as coordinating monthly arts stations and working with staff to include the arts in the daily lives of the patients and families.

BEST ME

VSA arts of Nebraska provides arts workshops to the Community Learning Centers through the Omaha Public Schools in their after school programming. VSA arts of Nebraska works with each elementary or middle school to outline the arts programming they would like and then coordinates the artist workshops. Evaluation and follow up are provided.

Professional Development and Technical Assistance

Technical Assistance
