Educational Programs and Artist Residencies

Horse Warriors™

Horse Warriors™ is a year-round, equine-facilitated program for people with disabilities and at-risk youth, ages 6–18, located in Jackson, Wyoming. Students interact with horses by contributing to their care and upkeep, arena riding, and trail riding in the back country. These experiences provide subject matter that encourages students to express themselves through journal writings, drawings, music, and other art media, supporting students with emotional and/or behavioral issues.

Seton House Art Classes

This program provides art supplies and instructors for youth in grades K–12 who reside in Seton House, a homeless shelter for single-parent families located in Casper.

In-House Classes—School

VSA arts of Wyoming provides art classes to senior high school students, adults, and occasionally younger students, all who have disabilities.

After-School Art Programs

This program promotes after-school art programs at elementary schools and an art museum/children’s discovery center located in Casper throughout the school year. A culminating event, such as an exhibition of the students’ artwork or the presentation of a play, is planned at each location at the end of the school year.

Creative Arts Program @ Ark Regional Services

This activity will provide three artist-in-residence programs for people with a disability, as well as two performing arts projects utilizing music, theater, and/or dance.

Pinedale Fine Arts Council

The Pinedale Fine Arts Council partners with VSA arts of Wyoming to provide workshops and classes for schools located in southwestern Wyoming. Offerings include a textile design residency, quilting residency, dance workshop, and writing residency. Music, comedy, and other performances are also offered.

Casper Children’s Theatre

This ongoing program provides theater classes for three different age groups of youth. Classes will culminate in three public performances for each group.

Nicolaysen Art Museum and Discovery Center Program

The Nicolaysen Museum provides educational programs through the Discovery Center Education Program. In addition to the Art’s Cool After School program, which is included in After School programs, the center will provide five additional programs for youth. The NIC will also work with disability organizations to provide stimulating art activities for visitors with disabilities. In order to increase participation of students with a disability, notices of these programs will be sent to special education and FLS instructors at all schools in Natrona County.

First Christian Church Early Childhood School

This new program will provide art supplies and/or equipment to expand an art program for preschool children.

Professional Development and Technical Assistance

Art Assistance and Training

VSA arts of Wyoming will provide art assistance, training, and/or art supplies to assist aspiring artists with disabilities with their career development.

Public Awareness and Outreach

Kids on the Block

This ongoing program makes available a troupe of 20 puppets, each representing a different disability, to travel statewide to schools, conferences, and other facilities to educate audiences about various disabilities and promote inclusion. Puppets may travel to schools, elder care centers, or other organizations throughout the year.

The Christmas Pageant of Peace Program

This ongoing program provides supplies for the preparation of Christmas ornaments that will be created by adults with developmental disabilities. The ornaments will be displayed on a Tree of Peace in Washington, D.C., and on the Governor’s Tree in the State Capitol Building.
